The bladder is a midline structure that is situated in the pelvic cavity, within the extraperitoneal space. As it expands, it enters the abdomen and comes in intimate contact with the anterior abdominal wall below the umbilicus.

The dome is cranially as well as anterior, so that it comes to lie on the anterior abdominal wall.
